Thursday, July 26: Embassy and International Foundation Fair

At this year’s NAFA Conference, we are bringing some of DC’s “Embassy Row” to you. At the Embassy and International Foundation Fair, you will be able to speak one-on-one with representatives of non-US scholarship foundations, of embassies, and of higher education systems about opportunities for American students abroad.

Austria


Austrian Teaching Assistantship Program
For Americans with at least a Bachelor's degree and intermediate level German skills to spend an academic year in Austria as salaried English teaching assistants.

Canada


*NEW* Killam Fellowships Program
Provides $10,000 (US) for exceptional undergraduates from the United States to study in Canada for one or two semesters.

France


Chateaubriand Fellowship (a.k.a. Bourse Chateaubriand)
Funds doctoral and postdoctoral student research in France (including stipend, health insurance, and limited per diem).

Teaching Assistant Program in France
For Americans after their third year of college who are proficient in French to spend 6-9 months in France as salaried English teaching assistants.

CampusFrance, a portal for American students who wish to pursue higher education in France.

Germany


Robert Bosch Foundation
Fellowship program that enables young American professionals to participate in an intensive work and study program in Germany.

DAAD (The German Academic Exchange Service)
Offers a wide range of opportunities to students, scholars, and universities of the United States and Canada, from undergraduate students to post-doctoral scholars, for study and research in Germany.

Ireland


International Education Office at University College Cork and Ireland Higher Education
The International Education Officer from University College Cork will be available for questions about studying abroad to Ireland (in general), selecting a university through the Mitchell Fellowship program, and graduate education in Ireland.

Japan


Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme
Invites young overseas graduates to be paid assistants in foreign language education at elementary, junior and senior high schools throughout Japan.

Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship
Offers seven types of government-sponsored scholarships to study in Japan for students of specific academic disciplines. Also provides scholarships for undergraduates to study abroad in Japan.

Middle East/Northern Africa


AMIDEAST
Organization that strengthens mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and peoples of the Middle East and Northern Africa through training and advising. It also administers study abroad programs and educational exchange.

Spain


NorthAmerican Language and Culture Assistants in Spain
Grantees work as English language assistant teachers for an academic year in one of ten autonomous regions in Spain.

Switzerland


ThinkSwiss Fellowship
Fellowship funding 2-3 months of research with an existing research team at any Swiss university.

United Kingdom


British Council
The UK's international organization for educational opportunities and cultural relations.

Northern Ireland Bureau
Northern Ireland's diplomatic office in the US that works to develop and deepen mutually beneficial links between economic, educational, cultural and community development interests.

*NEW* Scottish International Scholarship Programme
This scholarship, which is expanding to include students from the United States, covers the tuition fees for a Master’s program in Scotland of up to 12 months, as well as roundtrip airfare and living expenses.

Wales International Consortium
Organization to promote Wales as a study destination for higher education to students worldwide. Its membership includes all higher educations institutions in Wales as well as the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.

Friday July 27: Competitive Internship and Opportunities Fair

To complement NAFA’s traditional plenary foundation sessions, we will offer a Scholarship and Internship Fair. This fair will present an additional opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of programs for high-achieving undergraduate and graduate students in a diverse range of disciplines.

Americorps
Nationwide 10-12 month intensive community and public service program in fields such as education, public safety, health, and the environment.

Everett Public Service Internship Program
Ten-week summer internship program focusing on public service for undergraduate and graduate students.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Internships
Summer-long paid, substantial internships for students interested in furthering the mission of the FBI in Washington, DC-based FBI departments.

Mississippi Teacher Corps
Two-year teaching program in the Mississippi Delta for college graduates who did not major in education. Program includes teacher training and certification, benefits, full pay and placement, as well as scholarships to pursue a masters degree in education.

National Institute of Standards and Technology-Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
Ten-week paid summer program for undergraduates majoring in science, math, and engineering majors to work with NIST researchers while attending seminars to introduce them to various fields of science. NIST researchers have won the Nobel Prize in Physics three times within the last ten years.

Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education
Department of Energy Institute provides fellowships, scholarships, research experiences, and internshipsfor all college students, whether undergraduate, graduate, recently graduated, or post-doctoral.

Peace Corps
Sends volunteers to countries worldwide to work with local communities and governments to aid in development and health across many disciplines and sectors.

PPIA Fellowship Program
Provides educational, developmental, and financial support for students of diverse backgrounds, beginning with fellows’ junior year of college and continuing through the completion of a Master’s degree in public policy, public administration, or international affairs.

Smithsonian Institution Graduate Fellowship/Internships
Ten-week summer fellowship program for graduate students providing the opportunity to perform independent research with Smithsonian research staff, and a $5,500 stipend.

*NEW* Social Science Research Council-Dissertation Proposal Development Fellowship
Program for 2nd or 3rd year PhD students that includes two workshops for dissertation proposal development and eligibility to apply for up to $5000 for pre-dissertation summer research.

United Negro College Fund Special Programs Corporation – Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship
Prepares underrepresented minority students for careers in international affairs with a multi-year sequence of summer policy institutes, study abroad, language training, internships, graduate study, and career development services. Fellows apply in their sophomore year.

US Department of State-Internships
Semester- or summer-long internships within the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Embassies overseas.
